It features a talented Kenyan cast and crew and a guest Hollywood actor. The movie is in English and is a family friendly story of an African Maasai boy called “Leo” who believes he is a super hero, fails at being one and discovers that he is a superhero in a different way as he transfers his imaginary thoughts into a comic strip. It is a simple story that captures the essence of a child heart still open to all the possibilities of achieving his dream in Africa. This is a story of love, courage, sacrifice and the power of a dream. The film illuminates the sometimes overlooked aspects of Africa and celebrates the African spirit.

LEO PREMIER

LEO finally launched in Nairobi. 29.11.12 . It was a surreal moment🙂 The culmination of many years of dreaming.

To be honest, it was exhausting, tiring but in the same breath..it was exhilarating to see a dream come to pass.  God has been faithful and I appreciate the support of my family, friends, mentors,  the entire LEO team…..gosh the list is endless.  LEO fans i  leave you with two quotes that totally inspired this journey,

“Most of the great achievements in the world have been achieved by tired men”. How long should you try, Until?

“The belief that God will do everything for man is as untenable as the belief that man can do everything for himself. It too, is based on a lack of faith. We must learn that to expect God to do everything while we do nothing is not faith, but superstition.”
Rev. Martin Luther King,

SUMMARY OF LEO TEST SCREENINGS.

Image

It’s the Olympic season but a “LEO MOVIE” test screening brings me to London. It’s waaay..surreal being in London Olympics  & interacting with the global crowd.  Walking through the London streets, it feels like you are experiencing some significant moment as you walk past the historical monuments  and simultaneously experiencing the modern era as you watch the skyscrapers dominate the London skyline.

We just finished doing a test screening with Londoners at the Kenyan House and the experience was amazing.  A “test screening”  is a preview screening of a movie  before its general release in order to gauge audience reaction.  I was setting up ,when the  Dunford brothers (Kenyan Olympic Swimmers)  entered  the Kenyan House in London followed shortly by the KIP KEINO.. (legendary Olympic gold medalist)  The experience was “Nothing short of Legendary Africans inspiring other Africans.”

The audience reaction to LEO has been great, the response from the Americans,  Danish, Girls at the Oprah Leadership school and now the Londoners has been very welcoming…. i think we are onto something big…:)

LEO fans, getting distribution for an independent film is not a walk in the park and I reassure you that the LEO team has been working hard  despite the many setbacks to  get LEO into a cinema near you . I am learning that it’s easy to get excited about a vision, but it’s harder to be faithful to it. Faithfulness to the vision marks its legitimacy and on that note we are determined to launch LEO.

Tyler Perry in celebrating 20yrs in Entertainment Business had this to say, “So many times we think that because one thing didn’t go as planned we should give up on it. So many people leave their dreams dying on the floor, gasping for air because it didn’t work out the first time. Be it marriage, business, children, faith, whatever your dream is, you can’t give up because it didn’t go as planned. If I had walked away because it didn’t work you wouldn’t be reading this. I had to keep moving. Yes, there were setbacks. Yes, it was difficult, but I got to see my dreams come to pass because I never stopped moving forward, I never stopped praying and most of all I never stopped believing. DON’T STOP BELIEVING!!!! PLEASE DON’T STOP BELIEVING!!. ”

We appreciate each and every person, that has clicked to watch the trailer or mentioned LEO to a friend or two…..or a million:) Kindly continue to do so and we appreciate the encouraging posts

This year “Do the one thing you think you cannot do. Fail at it. Try again, do better the Second time” Oprah.

Pray with us and continue to share the following trailer link with your friends.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UePkJMnyFzA&feature=player_embedded

My next blog will have the dates for the Launch.:) Leo Love.  DARE. DREAM. BELIEVE.

N.B For this LONDON test screening I was honored to be dressed by Diana Nekoye of Simbaress fashion…www.simbaressfashions.co.ke Afro Chic outfits that rock:)

CLOSER ……

Seeing doors in Walls that’s some supersonic vision that the LEO team has acquired while working through this film. From Pre-production to the marketing phase, the project has gone through certain phases, where closing shop seems like reasonable choice, But! But!  Giving up is not an option, Winston Churchill once said,

Never give in, never give in, never; never; never; never; in nothing small ,large or petty-never give in expect to convictions of Honor and Good sense”

Restrategizing  Distribution which involves a whole lot of praying, thinking, consulting and trying over and over till eventually it opens.

I know many of you are eager to watch the film and I assure you that  the LEO team is working tirelessly to ensure that you get to watch the film.

We appreciate each and every person, that has clicked to watch the trailer or mentioned LEO to a friend or two…..or a million:) Kindly continue to do so and we appreciate the encouraging posts.

DARE: DREAM : BELIEVE: Nothing in life is worthwhile unless you take risks. You’ll never see a U-haul behind a hearse.
You can’t take it with you. The Ancient Egyptians tried it—and all they got was robbed! Denzel. W.

I’d like to meet all LEO fans in a theatre…that;s my dream… n i’m working towards it…xoxo

lights, Camera N Action :)

LIGHTS : CAMERA: ACTION

I’ve always thought of these words as a director standing behind the scenes but with the rough cut finished, I’ve doing a whole lot of press interviews to get word out about the film. So the tables I’ve flipped and I find myself on the hot seat, with interviewers asking all manner of questions about the making of LEO.

I remember vividly a cold winter in Houston just after I had finished directing a Christmas Production. I had coffee with one of my closest friend. I mean if there’s anyone who has watched me grow, it’s this girl. I was at the point of quitting movies and I sat there listening to her counsel. She gave me that look and she was like you’ve come too far to quit and as much as things seemed unclear in regards to sourcing funds for this project I believed her.

One year later I’m at the editing studio looking at the rough cut of the film and I get teary when I think of God’s faithfulness. My friend was right, should I have quit at that point, LEO would have just been another great idea that got buried. My mum always told me that success is hard and I can’t stress the importance of willing to dream but also willing to “Chonga Viazi” (Put in the hard work)

“God has created you a certain way with certain interests and passions. Follow them “ Tony Dungy”

I look forward to blogging about the theaters that LEO is showing. Pray with us and Reach for your dreams.

Sometimes I feel like there’s just not enough hours in the day and that I need to clone me or find Jinna some mini-me’s. It’s not that I’m not grateful. I’m blessed to be doing what I love. I remember that despite it all, this is what I’ve been working towards all my life.

Yesterday waking up was crazy but knowing that we’re so close to the finish line psyches me into LITERALLY rolling out of bed daily

And the ideas flowing around the think tank session (after the caffeine kicks in of course) just get my creative juices flowing. The think tank is the marketing team for film… It’s pure Energy…It’s better than dexters lab.:)  It’s  made up of nerds in internet,P.R, logistics n brandin…

WHAT A TEAM!

Now if I could just keep this up for the next few months … and for the next few movies … I could happily retire at 40 and oh, I dunno, make some more movies

XOXO
